The Ministry of Education, Government of India (GOI) has established National Testing Agency (NTA) as an independent autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organization under Society Registration Act, 1860 for conducting efficient, transparent and international standards tests in order to assess the knowledge, competency and abilities of candidates for admission to premier education institutions and for other purposes.
National Institute of Sports(NIS) was set up in 1961 at Patiala with the main objective of providing first class coaches in sports and games. It was merged with Sports Authority of India in 1987. NIS Patiala is, at present, the Academic Wing and the main academic centre of SAI. The Institute also has three academic subcentres at the SAI Regional Centres, the SAI Netaji Subhas Southern Centre, Bangalore, and SAI Netaji Subhas Eastern Centre, Kolkata and LNCPE, Thiruvananthapuram.
The Institute also conducts some regular and periodic sports education programmes at these centres and some other selected centres, from time to time. Besides being the academic centre of the SAI, the Institute also performs the important task of training of elite sports persons, for international competitions.
Being the premier sports institute in the Country, the Institute holds key to the development of sports in India.
NIS conducts a Diploma in Sports Coaching course. Admission to the course is through a test.
NIS has entrusted the task of conducting the Admission Test for Diploma in Sports Coaching.
The Test will be held in the Computerised Test Mode.
